  "markdown": "# @pipeworx/libretranslate\n\nLibreTranslate MCP — thin abstraction over any LibreTranslate-compatible instance.\n\nPart of [Pipeworx](https://pipeworx.io) — an MCP gateway connecting AI agents to 1476+ live data sources.\n\n## Tools\n\n- `translate(text, target, source?, format?)`\n- `detect_language(text)`\n- `list_languages()`\n\n## Auth / endpoint\n\nLibreTranslate's free public instances have largely shut down or migrated to paid.\nYou must provide an instance:\n\n- **Self-host:** https://github.com/LibreTranslate/LibreTranslate\n- **Paid:** https://libretranslate.com (BYO their API key)\n- **Community instance** that's still up\n\nConfigure via:\n- **Platform:** gateway env vars `PLATFORM_LIBRETRANSLATE_ENDPOINT` (URL) and optionally `PLATFORM_LIBRETRANSLATE_KEY`.\n- **BYO:** pass `?_endpoint=https://your-instance/&_apiKey=...` on the gateway URL.\n\n## Data shape\n\nStandard LibreTranslate v1 API — see [the spec](https://github.com/LibreTranslate/LibreTranslate#api).\n\n## Public instances (verified 2026-08-06)\n\nEvery free public instance this pack could have defaulted to is gone, so there is no keyless path. Checked on the date above:\n\n| Instance | Result |\n|---|---|\n| `translate.argosopentech.com` | does not resolve |\n| `libretranslate.com` | 400, key required |\n| `translate.terraprint.co` | 502 |\n| `lt.vern.cc` | 502 |\n| `translate.fedilab.app` | 403 |\n| `libretranslate.eownerdead.dedyn.io` | 403 |\n| `trans.zillyhuhn.com` | 403 |\n\nUnconfigured, every tool now returns `{found: false, reason: \"requires_endpoint\"}` naming `deepl_translate` — rather than throwing, which booked as a tool error and was indistinguishable in the logs from the upstream being down. The pack is in the gateway's `BYO_ONLY_KEY_PACKS` so routing sinks it below the translation tool that can answer without the caller's key.\n\n## Quick Start\n\nAdd to your MCP client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, etc.):\n\n```json\n{\n  \"mcpServers\": {\n    \"libretranslate\": {\n      \"url\": \"https://gateway.pipeworx.io/libretranslate/mcp\"\n    }\n  }\n}\n```\n\n### What this endpoint actually serves\n\n`tools/list` at `https://gateway.pipeworx.io/libretranslate/mcp` returns the tools in the table\nabove **plus the shared Pipeworx meta-tools** — `ask_pipeworx`,\n`discover_tools`, `search_within`, `remember`/`recall` and the rest of the\ngateway-wide set. So the tool count you see is larger than this table: a\nsingle-pack endpoint currently lists roughly 30 shared tools alongside the\npack's own. The connection's `initialize` response states its exact scope, and\nis the authoritative answer for a given day.\n\nThis is deliberate, not multiplexing by accident. The meta-tools are what let a\nscoped connection answer a question this pack does not cover — via\n`ask_pipeworx`, which routes across the whole catalog — without you adding a\nsecond MCP server. There is currently no way to mount a pack endpoint without\nthem; if the extra schemas cost you more context than the routing is worth,\nconnect to the full gateway once rather than to several pack endpoints.\n\nOr connect to the full Pipeworx gateway to get every pack's tools listed\ndirectly, instead of just this one's:\n\n```json\n{\n  \"mcpServers\": {\n    \"pipeworx\": {\n      \"url\": \"https://gateway.pipeworx.io/mcp\"\n    }\n  }\n}\n```\n\nBoth URLs reach the same gateway and the same 1476+ data sources.
