Grab the markdown at [burn451.cloud/developers#badges](https://www.burn451.cloud/developers?ref=mcp-badge#badges).\n\nYour reading data as an AI-accessible knowledge base. 26 tools for Claude, Cursor, Windsurf, and any MCP-compatible agent.\n\n**[Watch the real Claude → Burn walkthrough](https://www.burn451.cloud/mcp-demo?ref=npm_readme)** — the exact read-only prompt, tool calls, sources, and limits are published so you can reproduce it.\n\n> **You need a free Burn account to use this server.** Fastest path: open [Burn on the web](https://www.burn451.cloud/settings/extension?ref=npm_mcp) → **Settings → MCP Server → Copy Access Token**. Prefer the app? [Download Burn for iPhone](https://apps.apple.com/app/id6759418544?pt=1050039022&ct=npm_mcp&mt=8). Burn has a free tier (5 saves/day, all 26 MCP tools included) and a Pro plan at $4.99/month for unlimited saves.\n\n## How it works\n\nBurn is a [read-later app with a 24-hour deadline](https://www.burn451.cloud/blog/best-read-later-app-2026?ref=mcp-readme) — saves auto-burn unless you read or rescue them. The honest answer to the [bookmark graveyard problem](https://www.burn451.cloud/bookmark-graveyard?ref=mcp-readme) — research suggests [84% of saved bookmarks are never revisited](https://www.burn451.cloud/read-later-guilt?ref=mcp-readme) (Bergman, Whittaker & Schooler, 2021).\n\nTriage flow:\n- **Flame** → New links. 24h to read or they burn.\n- **Spark** → You read it. Stays 30 days.\n- **Vault** → Permanent. Your curated knowledge.\n- **Ash** → Expired. They had their chance.\n\nThe MCP server lets your AI agent search, triage, organize, and analyze everything you've saved. Built for [Claude users who want their reading history as context](https://www.burn451.cloud/mcp?ref=mcp-readme).\n\n> **Migrating from another tool?** Burn is a [Pocket replacement](https://www.burn451.cloud/blog/pocket-replacement-2026?ref=mcp-readme) (Mozilla shut Pocket down July 2025), an [Omnivore alternative](https://www.burn451.cloud/alternatives/omnivore?ref=mcp-readme) (acquired by ElevenLabs late 2024), and a [Matter app alternative](https://www.burn451.cloud/blog/matter-app-alternative?ref=mcp-readme).\n\n## Quick Start\n\n### 1. Get your token\n\n1. Create a free Burn account — [iOS app](https://apps.apple.com/app/burn451/id6759418544) or [web](https://www.burn451.cloud/?ref=mcp-cli)\n2. Open the app → **Settings → MCP Server → Generate token → Copy**\n\nThe server exchanges your token for a short-lived Supabase session and caches it in `~/.burn/mcp-session.json`. No re-login on each run.\n\n### 2a. Remote — Streamable HTTP (fastest)\n\nUse the hosted endpoint with the same Burn token. Nothing runs locally:\n\n```json\n{\n \"mcpServers\": {\n \"burn\": {\n \"type\": \"http\",\n \"url\": \"https://burn-mcp-server.vercel.app/api/mcp\",\n \"headers\": {\n \"Authorization\": \"Bearer <your-token>\"\n }\n }\n }\n}\n```\n\nFor claude.ai, open **Settings → Connectors → Add custom MCP**, use the endpoint above, and add the same `Authorization` header.\n\n### 2b. Local — stdio fallback\n\nRun the npm package locally in Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, or Claude Code:\n\n```json\n{\n \"mcpServers\": {\n \"burn\": {\n \"command\": \"npx\",\n \"args\": [\"burn-mcp-server\"],\n \"env\": {\n \"BURN_MCP_TOKEN\": \"<your-token>\"\n }\n }\n }\n}\n```\n\n### 3. Start asking\n\n- \"What did I save about system design?\"\n- \"Triage my Flame — what should I keep?\"\n- \"Create a collection from my AI bookmarks\"\n\n### Add to Cursor\n\n`.cursor/mcp.json`:\n\n```json\n{\n \"mcpServers\": {\n \"burn\": {\n \"command\": \"npx\",\n \"args\": [\"burn-mcp-server\"],\n \"env\": { \"BURN_MCP_TOKEN\": \"<your-token>\" }\n }\n }\n}\n```\n\n### Add to Claude Code (CLI)\n\n```bash\nclaude mcp add burn -e BURN_MCP_TOKEN=<your-token> -- npx burn-mcp-server\n```\n\n## Example prompts\n\nReading triage:\n\n- \"Go through my Flame inbox, read each article, keep anything about AI agents and burn the rest.\"\n- \"What's about to expire in the next 6 hours that I'd regret losing?\"\n\nKnowledge retrieval:\n\n- \"Search my Vault for everything on context engineering and summarize the main schools of thought.\"\n- \"Which authors do I save most often? What does that say about my reading gaps?\"\n\nResearch curation:\n\n- \"Create a collection called 'MCP in production' from my saves, then write an overview of what my sources agree and disagree on.\"\n- \"Add a watched source for Simon Willison's blog so new posts land in my Flame.\"\n\nWriting with your own sources:\n\n- \"I'm writing about read-later apps. Pull every relevant bookmark I have and list the claims I can support with a source.\"\n\n## Tools (26)\n\n### Search & Read\n\n| Tool | What it does |\n|------|-------------|\n| `search_vault` | Search permanent bookmarks by keyword |\n| `list_vault` | List Vault bookmarks by category |\n| `list_sparks` | List recently read bookmarks (30-day window) |\n| `search_sparks` | Search Sparks by keyword |\n| `list_flame` | List inbox — what's about to burn |\n| `get_flame_detail` | Full detail on a Flame bookmark |\n| `get_bookmark` | Get any bookmark by ID |\n| `get_article_content` | Get full article content + analysis |\n| `fetch_content` | Fetch content from a URL (X, Reddit, YouTube, WeChat) |\n| `list_categories` | All Vault categories with counts |\n| `get_collections` | List all Collections |\n| `get_collection_overview` | Collection detail with AI overview |\n\n### Triage (Agent as your filter)\n\n| Tool | What it does |\n|------|-------------|\n| `move_flame_to_spark` | Keep it — worth reading. Optional insight. |\n| `move_flame_to_ash` | Burn it. Optional reason. |\n| `move_spark_to_vault` | Promote to permanent. Optional category. |\n| `move_spark_to_ash` | Not valuable enough to keep. |\n| `batch_triage_flame` | Triage up to 20 at once. |\n\n### Collections (Agent as your curator)\n\n| Tool | What it does |\n|------|-------------|\n| `create_collection` | Create a topic bundle with initial bookmarks |\n| `add_to_collection` | Add bookmarks (deduplicates) |\n| `remove_from_collection` | Remove bookmarks |\n| `update_collection_overview` | Write AI overview (theme, synthesis, gaps) |\n\n### Analysis (Agent as your analyst)\n\n| Tool | What it does |\n|------|-------------|\n| `write_bookmark_analysis` | Write structured analysis back to a bookmark |\n\n### Auto-Feed (Agent as your scout)\n\n| Tool | What it does |\n|------|-------------|\n| `add_watched_source` | Watch an X user, RSS feed, or YouTube channel. New posts flow into Flame automatically. |\n| `list_watched_sources` | List all active watched sources |\n| `remove_watched_source` | Stop watching a source |\n| `scrape_watched_sources` | Fetch new content from watched sources on demand |\n\n## What this doesn't do (yet)\n\nHonest boundaries, so you know what to expect before connecting an agent:\n\n- **No save/add-URL tool.** The agent can search, read, triage, and organize what's already in your Flame/Spark/Vault — it can't add a new URL to your inbox itself. Save from the iOS app, the Chrome Web Clipper, or burn451.cloud first; the agent picks up from there.\n- **Keyword search, not semantic/vector search.** `search_vault` and `search_sparks` match on title, tags, and the AI-generated takeaway — not embedding similarity. Search by topic keyword, not by vague description.\n- **No delete.** Tools move bookmarks between Flame → Spark → Vault → Ash; nothing permanently deletes a row through MCP.\n- **Remote and local transports, but no OAuth flow yet.** The hosted endpoint uses Streamable HTTP at `https://burn-mcp-server.vercel.app/api/mcp`; local clients run `npx burn-mcp-server` over stdio. Both require a token you generate and paste once per client.\n- **Read/triage is the mature path; agent-writes-back is newer.** `write_bookmark_analysis` and `update_collection_overview` let the agent write structured notes back to your data. These write tools are newer and less battle-tested than the read/search/triage tools above.\n\n## Resources\n\n| URI | Content |\n|-----|---------|\n| `burn://vault/bookmarks` | All Vault bookmarks (JSON) |\n| `burn://vault/categories` | Category list (JSON) |\n\n## Use Cases\n\n**Personal knowledge management** — Your agent searches your reading history to answer questions, find patterns, and surface forgotten gems. See [AI bookmark management concepts](https://www.burn451.cloud/concepts/ai-bookmark-management?ref=mcp-readme).\n\n**Research workflows** — Create collections on topics you're exploring. Agent writes overviews synthesizing your sources. Examples: [vault as Karpathy LLM wiki](https://www.burn451.cloud/vault/karpathy?ref=mcp-readme), [Paul Graham vault](https://www.burn451.cloud/vault/paul-graham?ref=mcp-readme), [Simon Willison vault](https://www.burn451.cloud/vault/simon-willison?ref=mcp-readme).\n\n**Reading triage** — Agent reviews your Flame inbox, reads the content, decides what's worth keeping. Solves the [reading list app](https://www.burn451.cloud/blog/reading-list-app?ref=mcp-readme) problem of saves piling up.\n\n**Cross-tool intelligence** — Use with [Claude Code](https://www.burn451.cloud/mcp?ref=mcp-readme), Cursor, or Windsurf. Your bookmarks become context for coding, writing, and thinking. The [MCP server architecture](https://www.burn451.cloud/blog/mcp-read-later-server?ref=mcp-readme) is open and documented.\n\n**Free vs paid choice** — Burn's free tier includes all 26 MCP tools (5 saves/day); Pro is $4.99/month. See [free bookmark manager comparison](https://www.burn451.cloud/blog/free-bookmark-manager?ref=mcp-readme) for honest landscape across 8 truly-free options.\n\n## Environment Variables\n\n| Variable | Required | Description |\n|----------|----------|-------------|\n| `BURN_MCP_TOKEN` | Yes* | Long-lived MCP token (recommended) |\n| `BURN_SUPABASE_TOKEN` | Yes* | Legacy JWT token (still supported) |\n| `BURN_API_URL` | No | Custom API URL (default: production) |\n\n*One of `BURN_MCP_TOKEN` or `BURN_SUPABASE_TOKEN` required.\n\n## Container and Glama release\n\nThe container builds the TypeScript source, keeps only production dependencies, and runs the stdio server as a non-root user. Authentication remains a runtime requirement; no token is included in the image.\n\n```bash\ndocker build -t burn-mcp-server:2.1.1 .\ndocker run --rm -i -e BURN_MCP_TOKEN burn-mcp-server:2.1.1\n```\n\nFor a Glama release, use the repository Dockerfile (or the equivalent build steps `npm ci` and `npm run build`), set the CMD to `node dist/index.js`, and declare `BURN_MCP_TOKEN` as a required secret string. The Glama build test needs a dedicated test-account token supplied through its placeholder/secret configuration; never commit that token or use a maintainer's primary account token. After the build test succeeds, publish a Glama release and sync the server profile.\n\n## Security\n\n- Token scoped to your data only (Row Level Security)\n- Status flow enforced: Flame → Spark → Vault, or → Ash\n- Rate limit: 30 calls/min per session\n- Tokens expire after 30 days\n\n## Links\n\n- **App**: [burn451.cloud](https://burn451.cloud?ref=mcp-readme-links)\n- **iOS App**: [App Store](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/burn451/id6759418544)\n- **npm**: [burn-mcp-server](https://www.npmjs.com/package/burn-mcp-server)\n- **Chrome Extension**: [Burn Web Clipper](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/burn-web-clipper/ndfjhgbefjcfjbfhdigoncbaocfjmeen) on Chrome Web Store\n- **Read-later app comparison (10 tools tested)**: [best-read-later-app-2026](https://www.burn451.cloud/blog/best-read-later-app-2026?ref=mcp-readme-links)\n- **AI bookmark organizer rankings**: [best-ai-bookmark-manager-2026](https://www.burn451.cloud/blog/best-ai-bookmark-manager-2026?ref=mcp-readme-links)\n- **Pocket alternative pillar**: [pocket-alternative-2026](https://www.burn451.cloud/blog/pocket-replacement-2026?ref=mcp-readme-links)\n- **vs Raindrop comparison**: [burn-vs-raindrop](https://www.burn451.cloud/blog/burn-vs-raindrop?ref=mcp-readme-links)\n- **Developer docs**: [burn451.cloud/developers](https://www.burn451.cloud/developers?ref=mcp-readme-links)\n\n## License\n\nMIT\n",
