EleSync keeps the durable\ncontext you choose in a local vault, then lets approved assistants use that context\nwith explicit project and scope boundaries.\n\nStart a project with one assistant, continue it with another, and keep the context in\na folder you control.\n\n```text\nYour local vault\n      ↓\nMemories and imported history\n      ↓\nProjects, knowledge, tasks, decisions, and handoffs\n      ↓\nApproved AI assistants\n```\n\nNo EleSync account, hosted cloud database, e-mail registration, telemetry, subscription,\nor mandatory cloud sync is required.\n\n## The five-minute path\n\nA new user should be able to go from installation to a useful AI workspace like this:\n\n1. **Choose a vault.** Pick the local folder where EleSync will keep your workspace.\n2. **Protect access.** Add a local dashboard username and password when you need remote\n   or shared-device access.\n3. **Import AI history.** Bring in ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, WhatsApp, or other supported\n   exports and review what will become durable context.\n4. **Create a project.** Give your memories a purpose and a boundary.\n5. **Connect an assistant.** Connect Claude Desktop locally, or use a secure HTTPS/OAuth\n   flow for a remote assistant such as ChatGPT, Gemini, or Grok.\n6. **Test recall.** Ask your assistant: `What useful context can you retrieve from EleSync?`\n\nThe dashboard includes a guided first-launch wizard and progress tracking for these steps.\n\n## What EleSync does\n\n- **Memory:** gives assistants continuity across conversations and providers.\n- **Projects:** give context purpose, organization, and boundaries.\n- **Knowledge:** stores reusable knowledge sheets, tasks, decisions, and handoffs.\n- **MCP/connectors:** let approved AI assistants participate in the workspace.\n- **Imports:** bring existing AI history, documents, and WhatsApp conversations into one place.\n- **PWA/mobile:** capture and access the workspace from a phone while your computer runs EleSync.\n- **Privacy:** keeps the vault local-first and makes sharing explicit.\n\nImportant: when you connect an AI assistant, that assistant may read the context you make\navailable to it. Use project boundaries, scopes, read-only permissions, and separate vaults\nwhen you need stronger limits.\n\n## Visual tour\n\nThe dashboard is the center of the workspace: memories, projects, imports, connection health,\nand mobile access are all reached from one place.\n\nThe product workflow is:\n\n| Area | What you use it for |\n| --- | --- |\n| **Import** | Upload ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, WhatsApp, JSON, CSV, Markdown, TXT, or ZIP exports. |\n| **Memories** | Search, review, edit, and organize imported and saved context. |\n| **Projects** | Collect memories, knowledge sheets, tasks, decisions, and handoffs. |\n| **Connect AI** | Configure local Claude Desktop or secure remote AI connections. |\n| **Connection Health** | See whether the vault, dashboard security, local clients, and remote setup are ready. |\n| **PWA/mobile** | Capture text, links, and imports from a phone. |\n\n## Privacy by design\n\n- **Local-first:** notes and the search index live in the vault on your computer.\n- **User-controlled:** you choose the vault folder, backups, and what becomes durable.\n- **No mandatory cloud account:** normal local use works without an EleSync cloud service.\n- **Optional encryption:** encrypted vaults use Argon2id and XSalsa20-Poly1305 at rest;\n  plaintext remains the default for portability.\n- **Scoped AI access:** client grants can limit which memory scopes an assistant can read or write.\n- **Project isolation:** project-bound connections cannot recall or modify memories outside their project.\n- **Reviewable imports:** imported conversations and WhatsApp messages can be reviewed before saving.\n\n## Install\n\n### Windows: easiest path\n\n[Download the latest Windows installer](https://github.com/darknodebros/EleSync/releases/latest/download/EleSync-Setup.exe), run it, and open EleSync when installation finishes.\n\nThe installer asks where to keep the vault and visibly lists the AI assistants available\nfrom **Connect AI** after installation:\n\n```text\nChatGPT · Claude · Gemini · Grok · Perplexity · Copilot · DeepSeek\n```\n\nClaude Desktop is the optional local connection that can be pre-wired during installation.\nRemote assistants require your authorization and a secure HTTPS connection, so the installer\ndoes not silently configure them.\n\n### Windows: Scoop\n\n```powershell\nscoop install https://raw.githubusercontent.com/darknodebros/EleSync/master/elesync.json\n```\n\nUpdate later with:\n\n```powershell\nscoop update\nscoop update elesync\n```\n\n### Python / pipx\n\nFor macOS, Linux, or users who prefer Python tooling:\n\n```bash\npipx install elesync\nele web\n```\n\nRequires Python 3.10 or newer. You can also use `pip install elesync`.\n\n### Standalone builds\n\nStandalone Windows, macOS, and Linux builds are attached to each [GitHub release](https://github.com/darknodebros/EleSync/releases).\n\n## First import\n\nFrom the dashboard:\n\n1. Open **Import**.\n2. Choose a supported file or drop it into the import area.\n3. Review the detected format and privacy information.\n4. For WhatsApp, filter by sender and approve only the messages you want to keep.\n5. Save the full conversation or selected durable memories.\n6. Open **Memories** to search what was imported.\n\nSupported formats include:\n\n```text\nJSON · CSV · TXT · Markdown · ZIP · WhatsApp exports · Grok exports\n```\n\nImports are local. Nothing becomes durable project knowledge until the user saves or approves it.\n\n## First project\n\nOpen **Projects**, create a project, and give it a short purpose such as:\n\n```text\nJapan trip planning\nProduct launch\nBiology assignment\nEleSync workspace\n```\n\nInside a project you can:\n\n- Add existing memories\n- Save knowledge sheets\n- Track tasks\n- Record decisions\n- Leave AI handoffs\n- Set AI read/write/conversation permissions\n- Generate a project-specific local Claude connection\n\n## First AI connection\n\n### Claude Desktop: local project connection\n\nFrom a project page, choose the Claude provider and select **Generate project connection**.\nEleSync creates a command like:\n\n```powershell\nele --vault \"D:\\notes\" onboard --target claude-desktop --project PROJECT_ID --name elesync-project-a1b2c3d4\n```\n\nRun the command, restart Claude Desktop, and use the entry named:\n\n```text\nelesync-project-a1b2c3d4\n```\n\nThis entry is project-bound. Memories saved through it are attached to the selected project.\nIt can coexist with a general `elesync` entry; remove or disable the general entry when you\nneed strict project-only visibility.\n\n### ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, and other remote assistants\n\nRemote assistants require a public HTTPS origin and provider authorization. Use the **Connect AI**\npage to generate the current setup instructions. EleSync will show:\n\n- MCP server URL\n- Secure authentication details\n- Local server command\n- Tunnel/reverse-proxy target\n- Connection verification result\n\nDo not use `127.0.0.1`, a private LAN address, or the dashboard port as a public provider URL.\n\n## Mobile companion (PWA)\n\nEleSync can be installed on a phone without a separate mobile app:\n\n1. Start EleSync on your computer with `ele web`.\n2. Open **Use on another device** in the dashboard.\n3. Put your phone and computer on the same Wi-Fi network.\n4. Open the displayed address on your phone.\n5. Choose **Add to Home Screen** or **Install app**.\n\nThe computer must be running for live vault access. The PWA supports shared text and link capture,\nencrypted offline drafts, automatic retry, and mobile imports.
